Residential Solar Hot Water Systems
SO WHAT IS SOLAR DOMESTIC HOT WATER?
A solar hot water system is what every house, apartment, hotel, and business should have. The sun comes up every day and, with our system, produces hot water with no need for gas or propane. As far as electricity goes, our system uses just about the same amount as one 20 watt light bulb to deliver it to the storage tank. That's a lot of natural gas, propane, or electricity saved!
With our evacuated heat pipe collectors we are able to produce hot water even on very cold and cloudy days. We have even seen collector temperatures as high as 120 degrees on dark, rainy days, still bringing tank temperatures up enough to preheat your water in the tank so your backup heater hardly runs! Our collectors are tested and capable to withstand 200+ mph winds and quarter size hail.
The average household uses about $24 per month, per person, in utilities for heating water. That adds up by the end of the year! Many people choose to take short showers and to save money or just run out of hot water during their shower or bath because of undersized water heaters. Our system deliver a ton of hot water harvested from the day’s sun and stores it so it can even be used late at night. I've also been told "we don't need a solar hot water system; we just had one of those on-demand heaters installed." A great heating unit, but it still takes BTU to heat water, and it takes gas to make BTU. Our systems work perfectly with conventional or on demand style water heaters.
Typically on our solar hot water system we replace your existing water heater with a new solar storage tank and use an electric or gas backup heat source. For systems with on-demand heaters, we set a solar storage tank, route the water supply through the solar storage tank where the water is preheated, then on to the on-demand heater. We deliver the water slightly hotter to the heater so the burner is never called during hot water usage. One or two of our collectors are then mounted on your roof and a small pump station is wall mounted next to the tank. An installation like this would usually take about three days.
